What is a Medical Provider Network?

Medical Provider Networks are groups of doctors that have been selected by your employer and approved by workers’ comp to treat employees that have suffered from job related injuries. These groups of doctors are required to include doctors that practice general medicine and specialists who are trained to deal specifically with work related injuries. Employees are required to report to one of the doctors in the network for an initial assessment of their injury.

The employer chooses the first doctor the employee must see. After the initial visit, the employee is free to see any physician in the network of doctors in order to get a second or third opinion. If the injured worker disagrees with the assessment of these physicians, he or she may request an independent medical review.

Why is Having a Lawyer Beneficial?

An attorney can be beneficial during this evaluation process. The reports of all the physicians visited by the injured worker are considered when determining disability ratings. This rating will determine the amount of workers’ comp payments you will receive. An attorney can help make sure the doctor’s evaluations are fair and impartial. An attorney can inform you when you may need to get second or third opinions and, if necessary, he or she can help you request an independent medical review of your case before your final disability rating is determined.

Attorneys can help you stay organized and make sure all the paperwork for your claim is in order. This can be a complicated process and having someone on your side to assist you with all the technicalities of the claim process can be very beneficial.
