I Hurt My Back While Working at Walgreens*

Walgreens, like any company, has regulations and best practices in place to ensure the safety of its workers.

But accidents can happen in any Walgreens at any time, and those accidents can result in a hurt back.

A back injury that causes the back to hurt could take several months to recover from.

Fortunately, Walgreens is likely to have workers’ compensation insurance so you can file a claim with the insurer which helps to relieve the financial burden of a hurt back while you are unable to work.

Common Causes of Back Pain

Walgreens workers are employed in several different roles, such as sitting at an office desk as an administrative worker with poor back support, filling shelves with goods and delivering goods to the Walgreens stores.

Some Walgreens workers also hurt their backs when heavy packages filled with Walgreens products fall off storage shelves in Walgreens warehouses.

What to Do if You Hurt Your Back Working at Walgreens

The first thing to do following a back injury is to get the medical treatment you need.

Walgreens may ask you to get your medical attention from a medical center and doctor named by them.

If you fail to do this, you may not get the treatment you require paid by workers’ compensation.

As soon as possible you should submit a written report to your supervisor.

Some employers state a maximum time following the injury that a report should be submitted.

If you fall outside this date you may find you are not eligible for WC.

If you are fortunate Walgreens may provide you with a WC claim form to complete.

Otherwise you will have to get one from your state’s workers' compensation board. On the form you will need to complete the following details:

  • if anybody apart from yourself was involved in the accident that caused your hurt back;
  • where in Walgreens the hurt back took place;
  • time, date and location of the hurt back injury;
  • the type of back injury;
  • the medical treatment so far received for your hurt back;
  • how your hurt back injury occurred.

You need to include sufficient evidence that proves the hurt back took place at work. This is what is most often disputed by Walgreens WC insurers. The evidence could be any or all of the following:

  • eye-witness accounts of the accident;
  • photographs taken at the accident site;
  • medical report from your physician describing the hurt back injury, its cause and likely recovery time;
  • X-rays and scans showing the back injury;
  • on-site security camera footage.

If you are lucky, Walgreens will file your WC claim for you with the company’s workers’ compensation insurer as well as your state workers' comp. board.

As soon as your WC claim has been assessed by the Walgreens insurer, you will be informed if your claim has been successful and the amount of compensation you will be entitled to receive.

If your WC claim has been denied, you will need a workers’ comp. attorney to help you file an appeal.
